RIO NEGRO (ANAVILHANAS)

Day
1 - 8.30am leave
hotel, 9.00am depart from the port of Manaus, down the Rio Negro from
where we will see the city with its riverside dwellings called Palafitas.
At 18 kms from Manaus we will witness the phenomenon of the Meeting of
the Waters of the Rio Negro and the Solimoes which run side by side
for 6 kms before mixing. We will eat lunch on board and travel to JACARE
UBAL from where we will paddle the canoes to fish for piranhas. After
dinner we will go with the Caboclos to see how they catch alligators with
their bare hands (returning the animal to the water afterwards). We will
spend the night on board the boat or in homes of the Caboclos.
Day
2 -Travel
to the Anavilhanas Islands – about 400 islands which provide a
sanctuary for the delicate eco system of the Amazon – an abundance of
flora and fauna that are treatened with extinction. After lunch we will go
for a trek though the jungle. Sleeping on board the boat.
Day
3 /4 - After
breakfast we will go for the jungle, stoppingfor lunch on the way. We will
camp in the jungle at night, around a campfire.
Day
5 - After
breakfast we will trek back to the boat. We will eat on board, returning
to the city of Manaus.
Arrival: 5.00pm -Transport:
Riverboart or canoe. Accommodation: Boat or
native home.
