Boi-Bumbá is an ancient
folk celebration as a result of the mixture of immigrants and Indians
culture. In the state of Maranhão the rhythm is another, the same way
marvelous and surprising. In Amazonas the life of the "caboclos
" ( sons and daughters of white men and indians) gave this region's
Boi - Bumbá new colors and rhythms. It is simply amazing !
The dance, the costumes, the history, it is all there. It is all there. It
is an unforgettable show. In fact, the owners of the party are two bulls:
Garantido and Caprichoso. Nobody knows exactly who started first. But it
really does not matter. Part of it all are the elements of a farm. besides
the usual story of the beloved animal. the history of the people of
Amazonia and Amazonia itself is told. There is a rivalry between both
bulls, but it is a delicious and peaceful one.
The days before the presentation in Parintins people enjoy and dance at
Bumbódromo (9). And everybody sings all songs with no prejudice. During
the show in Parintins some rules must be obeyed: during the presentation
of the other bull the opponent crowd must remain in total silence. Any
manifestation against the opponent bull takes points out from the
supporters responsible for that attitude. The Boi-Bumbá mayhem happens in
Parintins, na island city in Rio Amazonas. But al the rehearsals, and the
choice of the songs happen in Manaus. From March until June. if you visit
us after June 28th, 29th and 30th, there are CD's , books and video tapes
available in the main shops check it and come to see meet us again.
